The rise of green process development for rubber additives
2025-01-03
The development of low-carbon, sustainable, renewable products and processes is becoming the main direction of scientific and technological innovation in the rubber additive industry; the green process is accelerating its evolution towards industrialization and is becoming an important driving force for the industrial upgrading of the rubber additive industry. At the 2024 China Rubber Industry Association Rubber Additives Professional Committee Members' Conference and the 24th National Rubber Industry New Materials Technology Forum, which ended on September 7, most technical reports and guest speeches showed that the development trend of green processes and products for rubber additives is emerging.
In line with the requirements of the times for green development and the rubber industry's pursuit of sustainable development, developing green products and green processes is no longer an option for rubber additive companies, but a must-answer question.
Tires are the largest application area for rubber additives. In recent years, the pursuit of sustainable development has been incorporated into the strategies of the top ten global tire companies.
Antioxidants are one of the most concerned varieties of green rubber additives. This is not only because of the sustainable requirements of downstream industries such as tires, but also because on March 8, 2024, the Washington State Legislature officially passed Bill 5931, declaring that the replacement of antioxidant 6PPD is a foregone conclusion. Currently, the United States has given five alternatives after evaluation and added two options in the second version of the plan, but both require further evaluation and research.
