The application of the vulcanizing agent DTDM in the inner and outer rubber compound formulations of bias tires.

The vulcanizing agent DTDM belongs to sulfur donors, can adjust the network structure of vulcanized rubber, has heat resistance, fatigue resistance, reduction resistance, does not spray frost, has good scorch safety, and is an ideal vulcanizing agent for heat-resistant rubber products and dynamic products.
The current common high-speed and overloaded operating conditions of vehicles have raised higher requirements for the intrinsic quality of bias tires, especially to avoid the phenomenon of shoulder voids caused by heat generated due to fatigue deformation during long-term driving. The fixed elongation stress of each component of the bias tires produced by our factory increases from the inner layer to the crown (in a "stair-step" shape), but due to the originally low fixed elongation stress of the inner and outer layer rubber (4-5 MPa for the inner layer, about 6 MPa for the outer layer), which is significantly different from the fixed elongation stress of the buffer layer rubber (about 10 MPa), the tire is prone to excessive deformation due to insufficient rigidity during driving. Therefore, it is necessary to redesign the formulation of the inner and outer layer rubber to appropriately increase the fixed elongation stress of the rubber.
The crosslinking structure of the vulcanizing agent DTDM during sulfur vulcanization is mainly composed of polysulfide bonds, which have low bond energy, are unstable, and are prone to change, thus exhibiting poor heat aging performance. During the use of tires, the phenomenon of sulfur reversion is likely to occur, affecting the actual service life of the tires. Therefore, we decided to adopt a semi-effective vulcanization system in the formulation of the inner and outer layer rubber of the tires, where the crosslinking bonds are mainly composed of monosulfide and disulfide bonds, thereby reducing the heat generation of the rubber, improving the thermal stability and anti-sulfur reversion properties of the rubber; at the same time, the fixed elongation stress of the rubber is increased, so that the fixed elongation stress of the inner and outer layer rubber can be improved without increasing the amount of carbon black, meeting the design requirements. In selecting the semi-effective vulcanization system, we used the vulcanizing agent DTDM in conjunction with the accelerator NOBS. The sulfur mass fraction of the vulcanizing agent DTDM is about 0.27, which can decompose active sulfur at vulcanization temperature, is safe to operate, and can increase the vulcanization speed when used with some commonly used vulcanizing agents.
